Afghanistan- 18 rebels, 4 pro-govt fighter killed in clashes


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL wok): Four pro-government fighters and 11 Taliban militants have been killed in clashes in central Kapisa province, a public representative said on Monday.

The gunbattles erupted on Sunday night when the Taliban stormed several security checkpoints of public uprising forces in Tagab district, the provincial council chairman said.

Mohammad Hussain Sanjini said at least four public uprising members were killed and 11 others wounded. Eleven attackers were also killed and 18 others injured.

He claimed the insurgents had captured a dozen check-posts as a result of the clashes, which were still underway the district.'

In the north, six rebels were killed and 16 others injured in clashes between government forces and the Taliban in the Qaisar district of Faryab province,

Police spokesman Karim Yourish the casualties occurred in different parts of the district over the past 24 hours. He also acknowledged casualties among the security forces and civilians, but did not provide specific figures.
