8 percent rise in Chinese ports cargo throughput

Official data showed that the Chinese cargo throughput at ports has increased 8 percent since the previous year to reach 11.5 billion tons in the starting 10 months of the year.

Foreign trade cargo made up 3.6 billion tons in the period, a rise of 4.4 percent since the past year.

The container throughput at ports saw a 4.5 percent rise to reach 217 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) in the cited period.

The Ministry of Transport increased the statistical range from main ports to all ports across China at the start of the year.
