Analysis: Crucial peace process for Afghanistan has been delayed amid presidential elections

(MENAFN- MENAFNAuthors) In the war-torn country, Afghanistan's 2019 peace process and the results of the presidential vote were again postponed.

This time, as in the past, Afghanistan did not have the kind of support from western partners for the processing of elections.

Peace process was a key issue for the country to come about with the help of election. Afghan people are waiting for their new president to take office.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani are yet again at the presidential table to become the elected leader of Afghanistan.

One thing is clear this time – there will be no government of unity. In other words, the country's relations would be governed by only one president.

But Hanif Atmar fell out of the 2019 presidential race in Afghanistan, while in this election Gulbuddin Hekmatyar held his word to the Pashtun people.

The war continues and further delays in the results of the election will not help the people of Afghanistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier that he would not sign a peace agreement with the Taliban.

Taliban continues their operations amid Afghan government calls for ceasefire leading to talks.

But the U.S. representatives and Taliban members secretly met with Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan separately to discuss Afghanistan's situation.

While these meetings will benefit the said groups but so far, the bloodshed of innocent people hasn’t been stopped.

Moving forward, Taliban first wants peace with U.S., after which they will find ways to deal with Afghanistan government which would likely include ceasefire and government positions.

Abdullah has been very critical of the Taliban in the past, but he is also not a favor of the American people.

Now that the election in Afghanistan has taken place, people are waiting for peace to come to the country to put an end to the suffering of the people of Afghanistan.
