(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Sri Lankan all-rounder Akila Dananjaya will not be able to bowl for 12 months, it is confirmed. According to the sources in the Sri Lanka Cricket, the decision was conveyed to the board and the player on September 18, bdcrictime reported.
Akila was reported for his bowling action during the first test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Galle from August 14-18.
At the total monetary expenses of the ICC, the 25-year-old the player traveled to Sri Ramachandra Institute in Chennai for the bio mechanical assessment under the supervision of Dr. Aditya and Mr. Gnanavel and their team.
According to the report, acceded by this Reporter, Dananjaya's standard delivery type bowling was inconsistent and ranged from 4 to 17 degrees. Two of his deliveries exceed the permissible limited of 15 degrees.
The data in the report was reviewed and verified by Dr. Andrea Cutti, the ICC's senior Human Movement Specialist.
This is Dananjya's second suspension in international cricket within a period of 2 years from his first suspension in December 2018 and accordingly, he will not be able to bowl till 29th August 2020. SLC has been advised that clause 8 of the Regulations provides for a limited right of appeal against this decision.
'Akila, though being an all-rounder, he cannot find a place only on his leftphand batting strength and will be out for 1 year. Whoever the new spin bowling coach is appointed will look after his bowling action now', a source in Colombo confirmed'.
