Qatar- Hefty fines for trucks violating traffic rules in Ramadan

Doha: Taking cognizance of the complaints of the residents regarding traffic jams, the Traffic Department has said that trucks are not allowed to enter Doha during peak time without obtaining permit from the General Directorate of Traffic. Those violating the rules will face hefty fines, a senior official said.


'The fine for violating traffic rules regarding movement of trucks during peak hours in Ramadan is QR3,000. The ban comes in order to avoid traffic congestion during peak times, and to ensure safety of road users including pedestrians and drivers during the holy month of Ramadan Colonel Jaber Mohamed Rashid Odaiba, Assistant Director of the Media and Traffic Awareness Department, told The Peninsula.


In a meeting held on Saturday by the Media and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic with Abdullah Moqaled Al Muraikhi, CMC Member for the Constituency Number 25 in Al Khor, and in the presence of a number of people from the constituency, Colonel Odaiba, stressed the importance of the role of the family in raising traffic awareness and reducing traffic accidents.


The meeting was attended by a number of people from the constituency who complained from the movement of trucks during peak times, in addition also to the timing of traffic signals which needs to be modified as per the need commuters. They also asked the Department to increase the number of patrols in the city.



Some families are encouraging their children to drive which leads to increase in the cases of traffic violations and accidents, he said adding the Department is keen to visit residents to revive the social heritage of the people of Qatar, and strengthen ties between the department and residents, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The aim of such visits is also to extend bridges of communication with citizens, discussing traffic issues, and listen to their problems, their suggestion and finding solutions to them.


The delegation of the Department included Major Khalid Eid Al Muhaysa, Captain Mohammed Abdullah Al Attiyah, Captain Eng. Mohammed Misfer Al Hajri, Captain Abdulwahid Ghareeb Al Anzi, First Lieutenant Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Aawi.


The Department's delegation praised the development and infrastructure that Al Khor is witnessing, saying that all these complains will be taken into consideration and will be resolved.


According to the department, signals are installed according to a field study and prior coordination between the Public Works Authority and General Directorate of Traffic to establish a mechanism for the operating time. And make sure the time is programmed. Before the operation, traffic is studied for a day or two, to determine the size of the traffic jam in the direction of the signal. Based on this field study, the time of each direction is determined.


In recent years, the smart signal experience, which has greatly contributed to traffic congestion in many areas, has entered a successful experience and is called smart, because it is programmed in a way to read the traffic through a sensitive device connected to the line on which the cars stand.


For his part, Captain Abdulwaheed Ghareeb Al Anzi highlighted the importance of coordination and cooperation between the General Directorate of Traffic and the Municipal Council in terms of traffic awareness, especially the awareness of families.


'The family is the basis for educating children. This does not mean neglecting the role of the school or other authorities, he said.
