Friday Prayers Disallowed At Jamia Masjid For 2nd Week


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) SRINAGAR — The government Friday disallowed mandatory congregational prayers for the second consecutive week at the historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta, Old city here.

Reports said the authorities had deployed a huge contingent of forces around and at the gate of Jamia Masjid to disallow entry of people inside mosque.

This is for the second time in the holy month when the government kept Jamia Masjid out of bonds for the Muslims to offer Friday prayers.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the government decision to disallow Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid. 'I condemn that for the second time in Ramadan Jumma prayers were disallowed at Jamia Masjid,' Mirwaiz said.

He said it was extremely sad that each day Kashmir is losing its promising young in one way or other to the lingering conflict. 'I urge all the stakeholders to come together to put an end to this daily killing and violence and bring peace to this beleaguered land by resolving the Kashmir issue,' he said.
