Japan issues mudslide warning after torrential downpour

(MENAFN)Torrential downpour resumed to hit huge swathes of the Kyushu region in Japan's southwest on Monday, with the weather agency setting off mudslide threat for some of the hardest affected areas.

In addition to the probable mudslides, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has also set off alerts that the downpours might trigger tornadoes and lightening strikes across the region through Tuesday, for humid air from the south sparking risky atmospheric conditions.

As the warm pressure system shifts northward, the JMA confirmed that torrential downpours could affect regions in both eastern and western Japan, with up to 250 millimeters of rain predicted in the 24-hour period through Tuesday.

In Miyazaki Prefecture, where mudslide threat has been announced, rainfall leveled for over 400 millimeters from Friday to Monday morning, according to the weather agency.
