Qatar- Curtains come down on third Katara Oud Festival

Doha:The third Katara Oud Festival successfully concluded yesterday following four days of fascinating concerts and participation of the world renowned Oud musicians and manufacturers.

The closing ceremony held at Katara Opera House witnessed a concert featuring some of the biggest Oud stars who played traditional melodies.

Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara and Chairman of the festival, said that the great turnout at the third edition of the festival which witnessed different communities from all around the world assures the great success and the importance of Oud as an amazing and important musical instrument.

'We are committed to revive the culture and arts in all forms and this festival is one of our many initiatives in this field to make Katara an intercultural hub and an icon of arts, he added.

Participating musicians and manufacturers expressed their delight on this festival which brought together Oud lovers from around the region under one roof. From Izmir, Tukey, renowned Oud maker Baris Karatekeli said he participated here for the first time and it would not be the last time as the idea of having such an event benefits the enrichment of culture and arts.

Other musicians who attended the festival were inspired to carry out such initiatives in their home countries and said that Katara had made a great job in boosting arts and traditional heritage of nations.

Themed under the famous Iraqi scholar and philosopher 'Al Kind, the festival focused on the Iraqi heritage in its themes to commemorate the famous scholar and musician and his contributions in enriching arts and science.

The festival included a number of events and activities with more than 35 artists taking part in the field of music and manufacturing Oud instrument from various countries including Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Tunisia, Oman, Greece, Yemen, Syria and Iran.
