Streaming giant Gaana has crossed 100 million monthly listeners, a milestone that consolidates its position as India's number 1 music platform.

As part of the celebrations, the Times Internet-owned company has added two new features into its app - Gaana Video for sifting through exclusive vertical video content and Artist Dashboard to provide additional insight to artists.

At a recent event in New Delhi, Gaana announced they had crossed the 100 million subscriber mark in March 2019.

According to Deloitte, some 150 million people stream music officially in India, and Gaana's latest achievement reaffirms its deep penetration into the country.

The company, in fact, says it has got 2.4 times more streams than its closest competitor in the music-streaming category.


80% users from top 20 Indian cities

Gaana says nearly 80% percent of its user-base comes from top 20 Indian cities, including the metros, and 10% from International markets, including the United States, Canada, Australia, UAE, and the UK.

Over the last one year, Gaana has released a bunch of features as well as exclusive content to not just take music to millions of Indians but also to serve as a platform for artists.

Among its wide-ranging capabilities, the app boasts AI algorithms that recommend music and a voice assistant that can play a song on a single call from the user.

The Gaana app also packs a unique 'lyrics' feature that shows you the lyrics of Hollywood/Bollywood songs in real time. The feature, as Gaana says, is used by 35% of its user-base.

Now, expanding its portfolio of features, the Gaana app is getting 'Gaana Video' - a dedicated section for mobile-only, vertical video content.

Prashan Agarwal, the CEO of Gaana, detailed the feature saying that it will offer exclusive video content for users to stream.

Notably, Gaana will be partnering with India's top artists to bring new, popular music on Gaana Video.

Along with venturing into video, Gaana has also added a new 'Artist Dashboard', a platform through which artists using Gaana will be able to see who is streaming their content and where.

The feature, as Agarwal explained, will provide artists with the information, which they will be able to use to plan their concerts/shows accordingly.


What kind of data artists will get through this dashboard

With Artist Dashboard, singers and composers will be able to see collective data - their today follower count, streams, where their followers are located, as well as additional demographic data like their age group and gender.
