Targeted murders, organized crimes increasing in east

KABUL: Residents of Nangarhar complain of the increasing targeted killings, kidnappings, armed thefts and other organized crimes in that eastern province which borders Pakistan.

Officials at the provincial council said Monday that security problems had enhanced recently in the province particularly the provincial capital of Jalalabad city, accusing the government of failing its prevention.

Members of provincial council and civil society express concerns over further increase in crimes if the government remains silent.

They say that such crimes take place while there had been a significant change recently in the security sector in Nangarhar.

They say that situation in the districts was improved, while it worsened in Jalalabad city.

Provincial governor, says that the situation had improved compared to previous years, adding that military operations were launched against armed fighters in the districts of Khogiani, Sherzad and Lalpoor. He promised of improving plans in the provincial city.

Political and security analysts say that situation in Nangarhar is now worse than any other time in the past.
