Lassa fever outbreak kills 42 in Nigeria


(MENAFN) Nigeria's Center for Disease Control confirmed the Lassa fever epidemic in the country to have taken the lives of 42 people.

It comes after the Nigeria center announced a Lassa fever epidemic in January 21st, a disease which causes the death of hundreds per year.

The center revealed that "since the onset of the 2019 outbreak, there have been 42 deaths in confirmed cases. The case fatality rate in confirmed cases is 19.7 percent."

It further added that 538 cases have been documented in sixteen out of the thirty-six Nigerian states, with 213 positive, 325 negative and two still unconfirmed.
