Doha: Qatar Charity announced today that the project to build a new model village for displaced Syrians on the Turkish border, which will provide shelter for 400 families, is 75 percent complete and is expected to be fully ready in three months from now.
The project is part of a series of pilot villages Qatar Charity seeks to build within Syria to provide shelter and services to Syrians at home. Qatar Charity aims to alleviate the suffering of the displaced by providing them with homes that protect their dignity, provide educational opportunities for more than 800 children, and provide health care to nearly 2,000 people. The assistance also includes tents, residential units, (caravans) for some camps, house rents, blankets, winter clothes, furniture and necessities of residential units.
The residential village, with a total cost of more than QR 6 million, consists of 400 housing units, a mosque, a medical center, a two-story school, shops, an administrative building and an artesian well.
It is worth noting that since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, Qatar Charity has managed to establish 11 model villages, comprising 5,492 units of prefabricated or cemented houses benefiting about 5,492 families, as well as other shelter projects, including provision of 100 temporary shelters and 15 shelters for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
