(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ABU DHABI, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti delegation to the ninth assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has focused on following up the latest researches and successful experiments across the globe in the use of the renewable energy.
The Kuwaiti participation was meant to boosting cooperation and coordination with international organizations and transfering their expertise to implement UN sustainable development goals, particularly those related to diversification of energy sources and employment of renewable technologies to generate 15 percent of the state's energy needs by 2030, Dr. Saad Al-Jandal, a member of the Kuwaiti delegation, told KUNA following the conclusion of the assembly Sunday.
He pointed out that the Kuwaiti delegation held several meetings with the participating officials of British, French and Arab technological institutions to deliberate the latest scientific researches and the most suitable development and investment models for generating electricity depending on the region's weather conditions.
He noted the assembly had tackled a wide array of Key issues related to the efforts to accelerate the expansion in the use of renewable sources to produce energy.
Meanwhile, the participating delegations elected Sunday Francesco La Camera to be the next Director-General of IRENA.
La Camera will take office on 4th April 2019, succeeding Adnan Z. Amin, who has been IRENA Director-General since 2011.
Francesco La Camera currently serves as the Director General for Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate at the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea.
With a membership approaching near-universality, IRENA serves as the principal platform for international cooperation on renewable energy, providing a centre of excellence for knowledge and innovation which supports countries world-wide in their transition to a sustainable energy future.
