S. Sudan urged to set up means to tackle modern slavery

(MENAFN) The UN sent an appeal to South Sudan to establish new strategies aimed at fighting all kinds of modern slavery, including human trafficking and smuggling.

The call was made by the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM) while marking the International Migrants Day.

South Sudan is suffering from escalated rates of modern slavery acts, the IOM stressed, pushing it to assume an urgent plan to tackle the issue.

IOM's chief of mission in South Sudan Jean-Philippe Chauzy stated: "the lack of legal and safe path ways in today's world is a major contributor to trafficking and migrants smuggling. And in crisis situation, trafficking remains largely overlooked and difficult to identify."
