Iraq's Sinjar to face efforts against becoming PKK stronghold

(MENAFN) Sinjar, a northern Iraqi region, is to face great efforts to prevent it from turning into the new stronghold for PKK militants.

The statement was made on Tuesday by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar while delivering his budget address to parliament.

The Turkish minister stressed: "we expect the Iraqi government to cooperate with us in ending the separatist PKK terror group's presence in Iraqi territories."

Turkey, the defense minister affirmed, holds a strong respect for Syria, Iraq and other countries' territorial integrity.

Akar added: "however, for the security of the country and the nation, our operations will continue until the PKK terror group has been completely defeated in the locations they exist in Iraq."
