UK allowed to unilaterally cancel EU exit

(MENAFN) The UK has been granted authorization from the European Court of Justice to cancel the notification of its plan to make a European Union exit unilaterally.

The court ruled on Monday that "when a member state has notified European Council of its intention to withdraw from the European Union, as the U.K. has done, that member state is free to revoke unilaterally that notification."

It comes after the EU received a notice from UK Prime Minister Theresa May last year, saying that the UK will be pulling out of the EU under Article 50 TEU.

The court added: "that possibility exists for as long as a withdrawal agreement concluded between the EU and that member state has not entered into force or, if no such agreement has been concluded, for as long as the two-year period from the date of the notification of the intention to withdraw from the EU, and an possible extension, has not expired."
