Sri Lanka- Speaker Karu Jayasuriya slams SLBC chief


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) came under fire in Parliament today with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya accusing him of disregarding instructions issued by Parliament.

United National Front (UNF) Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera said that there is an agreement between Parliament and SLBC to broadcast Parliament proceedings.

He noted that SLBC was blatantly violating the agreement by not broadcasting Parliament proceedings which over the past few days.

Ajith P. Perera said that the Parliament privileges committee must summon the SLBC chairman and question him over his actions.

Jayasuriya said that the SLBC chairman had been issued notice on three occasions yet the chairman had disregarded the notice.

UNF Parliamentarian Range Bandara said that a criminal case can be filed against the SLBC chairman.

He said the SLBC chairman cannot decide when to broadcast and when not to broadcast Parliament proceedings. (Colombo Gazette)
