Turkey nabs 12 suspects of 2016 failed coup


(MENAFN) Turkish police have nabbed more than 12 people, with academics among in Istanbul over their suspected connection to a network thought to be responsible for an unsuccessful coup in 2016.

The state-run Anadolu Agency confirmed that Betul Tanbay, a mathematician at Bogazici University, and Turgut Tarhanli, a famous professor at Bilgi University, were involved in the arrest operation which took place in many areas across the city.

Anadolu added that the rest of the suspects were taking part of the Anadolu Kultur, a cultural association, whose leader was nabbed over charges of attempting to overthrow the government during the unsuccessful coup in July 2016 and attempting to overturn the constitutional order.

The agency announced that the police are chasing after another eight suspects.€ƒ
