ABU DHABI, 3rd November, 2018 (WAM) -- The 4th International Conference on Future Mobility, ICFM, will be held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, featuring a world-class team of experts in the automotive industry and technologies.

More than 450 experts and professionals are expected to represent more than 175 government and private institutions from 18 countries at the event.

The conference and its accompanying exhibition has been organised by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, ESMA, in cooperation with the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sultan Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of ESMA, at the St. Regis Hotel & Resort Saadiyat Island on 7th and 8th November, 2018.

The conference and exhibition will discuss the challenges and opportunities in this promising sector, while Artificial intelligence in the automotive industry and sustainable transport infrastructure forms the latest developments in the fourth edition of the conference, under the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Future Mobility."

Abdulla Abdulqader Al Maeeni, Director-General of ESMA, said, "The automotive and transport sector faces a future that may radically differ from its present and past, especially as there are many trends and innovations ranging from decentralisation of energy, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, and they are converging together to radically transform the global transport ecosystem."

Al Maeeni pointed out that the digital and technical revolution in the vehicle sector, such as self-driving and artificial intelligence, has the ability to fully transform the mobility system. "We, at ESMA, understand that the real potential of these technologies cannot be fully realised until the legislative and technical basis is prepared. At ESMA, we contribute to achieving this vision through the development of regulatory frameworks and infrastructure of technical legislation and standard specifications required."

Al Maeeni stated, "The acquisition of practical experience from these new systems will allow our government to keep abreast of these technological developments. We work closely with manufacturers and regulators around the world, closely follow the developments in this sector, and consistently seek to develop a regulatory framework and standards consistent with global legislation.

"The transformation of the country's mobility sector and the rapid adoption of green, smart and self-driving transport systems and mechanisms have been part of the agenda and vision of government agencies that have launched a series of initiatives and plans to realise the vision of making the UAE a global capital for the future, including Abu Dhabi Transportation Mobility Management Strategy, the Surface Transport Master Plan - Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy," he added.

On the sidelines of the conference, the exhibition will showcase the latest technology, which is the icon of the future of mobility. Government agencies, automotive manufacturers and infrastructure suppliers will showcase their initiatives, products and innovative solutions in intelligent and connected mobility and environment-friendly vehicles.
