DOHA: Qatar Amateur Radio Society participated in an international amateur radio contest (CQ WW SSB 2018), which began yesterday.

The biannual event is ranked as the most important amateur contest in the world. The event promotes the exchange of cultures, ideas, and expertise. Last year saw the Qatar Amateur Radio Society come in second place in the competition and first in the Asian continent.

President of Qatar Radio Society Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah said that participation in this year's edition was ideal, as all the contest's requirements were prepared.

Responding to a question from QNA on the importance of participating in such events, the vice president Dr Ahmed Hamad Al Mohannadi said that engaging with these events is what showcases the advancement of Qatar's radio amateurs among their peers around the world. He added that the society provided all the capabilities needed for its members to do well and become one of the best performers in the contest. There is a total of 8 million radio amateurs around the world, 4 million of which will take part in this contest.
