DOHA: The General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security yesterday held a meeting of the participants in the Maritime Exercise (Dibel 2), which will be implemented by the Directorate during the coming period, with the aim of measuring the readiness of the concerned authorities to deal with incidents at sea.
Brigadier Ali Ahmed Saif Al Badid, Director General of Coasts and Borders Security, explained that the Dibel 2 exercise comes under the supervision of the Permanent Emergency Committee following the success of the Dibel 1 exercises.
It also comes within the annual plans prepared by the Department for the purpose of training and practical drill to confront various marine accidents and tasks with collaboration of other authorities involved in the event.
He stressed that the General Directorate of Coast and Border Security is keen to be in a state of readiness to face the various incidents occurring in the maritime field, whether accidents of commercial vessels and oil tankers or counter smuggling, or the practice of fishing in Qatari waters by non-Qatari maritime vessels, As well as the protection of gas and oil facilities and other maritime functions.
For his part, Lt. Col. Khalifa Mohammed Al Attiyah, Director General of the General Directorate of Industrial Security said that the Dibel 2 exercise will be a continuation of the joint efforts between the Directorates of the Industrial Security and the Coasts and Borders Security and other parties concerned. He added that the Dibel 1 exercise was at a success where the participants dealt with the exercise professionally. He explained that the Dibel 2 will take into consideration the aspects and observations observed in the Dibel 1 exercise. This is the aim of conducting the exercises to enhance the positives and to address any observed observations.
Captain Hassan Ahmed Al-Sulaiti Assistant Director of Operations at the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security who supervises the exercise pointed out that the aim of the continuation of maritime exercises is to promote cooperation between different authorities and raise the capacity of people involved in dealing with the event from different quarters.Qatar Petroleum Ports, the Department of Oil Spill Control, the Amiri Air Force, the General Directorate of Industrial Security and the National Command Center will participate in the exercise.
