(MENAFN) The Syrian military has made a humanitarian corridor in Eastern Ghouta for both civilians and militants who are permitted to leave the area together with their families, Spokesman for the Russian Reconciliation for Syria Maj. Gen. Vladimir Zolotukhin said Tuesday.
The militants leaving Eastern Ghouta with personal weapons and with their families would be guaranteed immunity from prosecution, he clarified.
On Wednesday, Zolotukhin announced that part of the rebel fighters currently in eastern Ghouta have decided to accept a Syrian proposal to leave the area through a humanitarian corridor, according to TASS news agency.
"According to information received by the Centre, due to the humanitarian situation in the area of Eastern Ghouta, some militants are considering the possibility of leaving the city of Douma with their families through the humanitarian corridor," Zolotukhin said.
"However, other members of illegal armed groups consider this choice a betrayal," he said, adding that the Reconciliation Centre will "ensure the inviolability of all militants who have decided to leave eastern Ghouta with weapons and families".
Meanwhile, Syria's flag has been hoisted by people in the terrorist-held settlements of Sabqa and Hamouriyeh in Eastern Ghouta.
The sources said to Fars News that the people, whose region has been under several years of terrorists' occupation, are preparing to welcome the Syrian Arab Army in their villages, settlements and towns.
