(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): The or lower house of parliament on Monday decided to summon Da Breshna Shirkat (DABS) officials after reported missing of billions of afghanis funded to the power utility.
A recent report by the (MEC) claimed massive corruption in distribution of electricity, distribution of three-phase meters, power consumption, and revenue of DABS.
The MEC report revealed since 2002 up to date 220 billion afghanis had been funded to the electricity sector, of which 12.5 billion afghanis had been acknowledged by DABS and the rest had been missing and the company was unaware about it.
Mohammad Arif Rahmani, a public representative from southern Ghazni province, brought up the matter before the assembly and said those involved should be exposed. 'One billion dollars go missing in the past three years alone.'
Rahman, without going into details, said: 'Currently, a mafia is active in DABS and is busy in stealing.'
He said the Wolesi Jirga shouldn't take the issue lightly because the Afghans obtained funds with difficulties and begging and shouldn't be looted like this.
Kobra Mustafawi, a lawmaker from Kabul, also echoed the missing of three billion dollars from DABS since 2002 and called for the issue to be seriously pursued.
A number of other members of the lower house also held similar views and demanded investigation into the topic and summoning of DABS officials.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahmi tasked the house's transportation and telecommunication commission with scrutinizing the MEC report and also ordered the summoning of DABS officials to next sessions of the lower house.
Waheedullah Tawhidi, DABS spokesman, about the MEC report, told Pajhwok Afghan News: 'Every kind of allegations being leveled against DABS must be based on proof and documents.' He said claims without documents and proofs weren't acceptable to DABS.
