6 coaches of Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar; 20 injured

At least 20 passengers on the Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express have been injured as six coaches derailed near Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar.

No deaths have been reported so far; the injured people are being taken to a nearby hospital.

The major accident took place when the train was on its way to Haridwar from Odisha's Puri.

Rescue operations are underway.

Uttar Pradesh's Anti-Terrorism Squad will investigate if there are any terror links to the accident.

Though officials have not confirmed anything, many reports claim five passengers have succumbed to injuries.

The reason behind the derailment is unclear; there have been reports about broken tracks on the railway route a few days ago.

The accident would likely affect train movement on the northern route.

Additional Director General of Police (Railways) VK Maurya said nearly 10 coaches have derailed.

The Railways issued two helpline numbers for inquiry: 9760534054 and 9760535051.

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is personally monitoring the situation; PM Narendra Modi has also been informed about the same.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath is also enquiring about the train accident and has rushed all possible help.
