100 deaths in Malaysian immigration detention in two years

(MENAFN) The government-funded National Human Rights Commission had reported to Reuters that in the last two years, one hundred foreigners died in Malaysia's immigration detention centers due to different diseases and unknown causes.

The total number of deaths is not disclosed yet by the Malaysian immigration department data provided to the commission, but there were 83 deaths in 2015 and in 2016 the number posted around 35.

On the other hands, government officials in Indonesia and Thailand did not confirm disclose such numbers, while the rate is higher than in major industrialized nations such as the US, which posted in previous year around 10 deaths in immigration centers.

However, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's office declined to answer any calls over the matter.
