UAE- Lubna Al Qasimi meets British minister for international development and high commissioner of the United Nations

ABU DHABI 6th February 2016 (WAM) - Directing humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees needs a systematic and comprehensive approach and enhanced cooperation with international institutions to guarantee an effective response to the crisis said Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi Minister of International Cooperation and Development Head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid.

She also noted the need to adopt a comprehensive strategy to ensure providing various types of assistance to the refugees based on understanding and identifying their needs taking into account the need for aid to reach all geographic areas in need.

She noted the leading role played by the UAE in the international response to the Syrian refugee crisis and the willingness of the country to go beyond the assistance provided by the UAE's humanitarian institutions. She said the UAE went beyond the traditional framework of aid to include providing food aid the establishment of the shelters and camps as well as the provision of health care services education and vocational rehabilitation and other services.

These discussions came during a meeting with Desmond Swayne The Minister for International Development United Kingdom during a meeting on the sidelines of the Fourth International Humanitarian Pledge Conference for Syria which was held in London.

Sheikha Lubna and Swayne discussed ways to strengthen the UAE-UK partnership in the crisis. In particular the discussed unified efforts of both countries to provide qualitative support to the cause of Syrian refugees in the presence of partnership agreements between both countires to improve the response including the provision of education services and other humanitarian assistance.

Sheikha Lubna also met Feleibo Grandy the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Refugees to discussed with him ways to provide additional support in refugee issues throughout the world and the need for an urgent response to the provision of relief to them.
