Philippines records second case of MERS

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The Philippines recorded its second case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) after a 36-year-old foreigner tested positive for the virus, dpa quoted the health department as saying Monday.

The male patient had travelled to Dubai and began
experiencing symptoms on July 2, when he sought medical attention at
a government hospital, said Health Secretary Janette Garin.

'He is now being closely monitored,' she told a press conference. 'He
is stable and very cooperative. He is our second case of MERS.'

The virus has killed over 30 people in South Korea in the biggest
outbreak so far outside the Middle East, where it was first detected
in 2012.

The first MERS case in the Philippines was a pregnant Filipino nurse
who came back from Middle East region in February. She recovered from the
illness.
