UAE- Industrial Development Bureau launches auditing operation of systems used in industrial entities

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Industrial Development Bureau at the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi has accredited the occupational safety, environment and health systems of 14 industrial establishments during the first quarter of 2015, increasing the number of accredited establishments to 225 in Abu Dhabi.

The bureau formed a dedicated team to conduct auditing operations in industrial establishments in order to accredit their occupational safety, environment and health systems as part of requirements imposed across the emirate on this activity. The auditing also formed part of responsibilities assigned by the Abu Dhabi Occupational Health and Safety Centre, OSHAD, to the bureau with the objective of completing the implementation of the emirate's system requirements for occupational safety in the industrial sector in Abu Dhabi.

The auditing programme conducted by the Industrial Development Bureau aims to guarantee the existence of a regulated method to check the management of occupational safety and health in industrial establishments, in addition to identifying and recording all relevant non-conformity cases and putting in place the appropriate plans for the establishments to remedy any shortcomings.

These measures are complementary to the monitoring measures taken by the Industrial Development Bureau regarding industrial establishments, to guarantee their conformity with occupational safety and health standards and requirements in order to improve practices and provide safe and healthy work environments in Abu Dhabi.

During the first quarter of 2015, the bureau conducted 227 technical inspection operations for occupational safety, environment and health, that included industrial establishments operating in the emirate. The auditing process falls within the bureau's efforts to increase the performance levels of these industries and support their commitment to requirements and conditions imposed by the Abu Dhabi occupational safety and health system.

The bureau accredited 211 industrial establishments up to the end of 2014 in various parts of the emirate. About 98% of these establishments submitted their annual performance reports to the bureau, while the number of industrial establishments registered at the bureau to improve their occupational health and safety systems was 684, 44 of which registered during the same year.

According to the bureau's 2014 annual report, the overall number of industrially licensed entities is 1,471 factories, while the number of entities registered in the industrial sector to implement the emirate's system requirements for occupational safety and health is 684, 197 of which have been ranked according to the risks associated with their activities based on OCHAD standards. The ranking of the remaining registered entities will continue until the end of July.
