China's industrial output expands 6.4 percent in Q1

(MENAFN) According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China's industrial output expanded by 6.4 percent in the first-quarter period, down from 8.7 percent growth on-year, Xinhua reported.

The figures were released by the NBS with other major economic indicators for the first three months of the year, signaling continuing downward pressure on the world's second-largest economy.

Last month, industrial output growth dropped to 5.6 percent on-year, marking the lowest level since December 2008 and following a 6.8 percent growth registered in the January-February period.

In the first two months of the year, China's industrial enterprises posted combined profits of USD121.57 billion, down 4.2 percent from a year earlier, NBS data showed.
