Kuwaiti athletes win 8 medals in Tunis


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwaiti disabled and deaf athletes clinched eight medals (one gold three silver four bronze) on day one of the Tunis International Meeting which is an IPC Athletics Grand Prix calendar event. A Kuwaiti side which included two teams (the Kuwait disabled national athletics team and the Kuwait Deaf Club) due to the nature of the events for Paralympic athletes on one hand and for deaf athletes on the other - as deaf athletes do not fall under the Paralympic categorization.

In the Paralympic events Ahmad Al-Mutairi took silver as Mohammad Mejbel and Rashed Al-Hassan took a bronze each. In the meantime deaf athletes Nawaf Al-Shemmeri took a gold with Nayef Al-Shemmeri and Abdulaziz Nashmi both taking a silver each and two bronzes clinched by Nasser Sanous and Shabib Al-Ajmi.

The medals over both categorizations were won across the 100m and 800m running events. Some 320 athletes are taking in the three-day event from 20 nations. Kuwait is taking with a total 15 male and female athletes. (KUNA)
