UAE's Air Arabia signs USD230m aircraft deal

(MENAFN) Air Arabia, the Sharjah-based low-cost carrier, announced it has signed an aircraft financing deal, at an estimated worth of USD230 million, to facilitate the delivery of six new Airbus A320 aircrafts in 2015, Arabian Business reported

The new aircrafts, which will be delivered one by one every two months starting January 2015, with the final sixth aircraft handed over by the end of the year, will be added to the 29 aircrafts already received by the carrier, which are part of a 44 A320 aircraft it ordered from Airbus in 2007.

The low-cost carrier, which reported a net profit of USD74.71 million during the July-September period, which is an increase by 22 percent compared with the same period last year, said that its passenger numbers increased by 15 percent to about 1.75 million during the cited period compared to the same period in 2013.

Air Arabia, which also has hubs in Egypt and Morocco and flies about 100 routes, is competing with other regional low cost carriers, which include flydubai and Kuwait's Jazeera Airways.
