Turkish army boosts deployment near Syrian borders

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Turkish army reinforced deployment near the Syrian borders on Monday after clashes escalated between the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and military units protecting the Kurdish people.

Turkish Ihlas news agency said that the Turkish army deployed 15 tanks in Suruc bordering town near Ain Al-Arab, or Kobane, north of Syria, noting that the tanks were seen carried by military trucks on the main road in the direction of Sanliurfa.

The agency noted that the reinforcements come after clashes between ISIL and Kurds intensified inside Kobane, few kilometers from the Turkish borders.

Turkey is so far rejecting to join the international military coalition against ISIL due to concerns that it might improve President Bashar Al-Assad position.
