King Philippe extends mandate on formation of new gov't in Belgium

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) King Philippe of Belgium Tuesday extended the Flemish nationalist leader Bart De Wever's mandate as a negotiator to form a coalition government for another week. The decision to give him another week to try and find political parties prepared to commence negotiations on the formation of a new federal government was announced after a meeting between the King and De Wever today, Belgian media reported. De Wever was to have presented a final report on his mission to the king today but after the meeting the king agreed to his request for an extra week. De Wever whose Flemish nationalist party N-VA came first in elections held on 25 May hopes to pave the way to the formation of a centre-right coalition.
