Lebanese minister says tourism little affected

(MENAFN) Lebanese tourism minister Fadi Abboud said assured that the country's tourism sector this summer won't be badly affected by growing domestic unrest and turmoil in neighboring Syria, Reuters reported. Abboud also predicted tourism revenues this year stand at around USD7 billion, same as last year. Abboud underestimated concern that the economy's vital sector may take a heavy hit and said he expected 1.8 million visitors this year, despite an almost complete absence of overland travelers. Tourism, which contributes 16 percent of Lebanon's GDP, suffered a blow when four Gulf Arab countries warned their citizens not to visit Lebanon after clashes erupted there between supporters and opponents of the uprising in neighboring Syria.
