Oman- Sculptors from 14 countries to take part in Sohar camp

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Twenty-four sculptors from 14 countries will take part in the fifth International Sculpture Camp which will be held from January 27 to February 5 in Wadi al Jizzi in Sohar. Eight Omanis will be among the artists, supervisor of the camp, Ali al Jabri told Muscat Daily.

'There will be 16 sculptors from around the world, including countries like Italy, India, Macedonia, Russia, Ecuador, Bulgaria, Egypt, Sudan, Kuwait and Bahrain,' he said. He added, 'The works of the sculptors will be displayed at the closing ceremony which will be held at Crowne Plaza Sohar under the patronage of the Minister of Transport and Communications.

'The camp aims to boost the artistic movement in the sultanate while supporting tourism. It will be a chance to exchange sculptors' expertise in the field of marble, stones and wood and strengthen bonds between the sultanate's sculptors and ones from abroad.'

The camp will include different activities such as training workshops in wood and marble sculpture, visiting marble quarries in Sohar and tourist sites in Sohar and Muscat, cultural evenings and an exhibition of sculptural works produced during the camp.

'We'll have an exhibition in Sohar which displays all the products of the previous camps. We are seeking to set up a modern museum that includes all the works of the Omani sculptors,' Jabri said. 'They participate in a number of exhibitions every year, such as the Muscat International Book Fair,' he added. 'Sculptors need the support of the media to spread awareness among people.'
