(
MENAFN) Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune awarded South African President Cyril Ramaphosa the "Medal of National Merit with the Rank of Atheer" in recognition of his efforts to highlight the genocide of Palestinians. The Algerian presidency stated that the medal was presented to Ramaphosa in acknowledgment of his and his government's contributions in defending shared human values at international forums and for exposing the genocide committed against the Palestinian people by Israel’s apartheid regime.
The Atheer Medal is one of Algeria's highest presidential honors, presented to heads of friendly nations and Algerian citizens in recognition of their distinguished services and virtues.
During his visit to Algeria, Ramaphosa and Tebboune signed a strategic partnership declaration between their countries. They also oversaw the signing of five memorandums of understanding covering areas such as agricultural research, joint economic cooperation, legal and judicial collaboration, and a cooperation agreement between the Algerian and South African space agencies.
Ramaphosa later addressed a joint session of the two houses of the Algerian parliament.
