Iranian Lawmaker Warns US Role in Hormuz Shipping Violates Ceasefire

(MENAFN) A senior Iranian lawmaker warns early Monday that any US involvement in managing maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a breach of the ceasefire, according to reports.

Ibrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, says Washington should not play any role in the waterway’s management and strongly rejects the proposed US initiative.

“Any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire.”

He also criticizes the idea of US-led coordination in the region, stating that the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf “would not be managed by Trump’s delusional posts.”

“No one would believe Blame Game scenarios!” he added.

The remarks come in response to US President Donald Trump’s statement that the United States will begin assisting stranded ships in the Strait of Hormuz, guiding them out of restricted waters.

Trump describes the initiative as a humanitarian effort aimed at helping neutral countries affected by regional tensions, saying it is intended for the benefit of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, according to reports.
