Trump Says He Is Not “Heaven-Bound”
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump cast doubt on his chances of reaching heaven even as he works to mediate peace between Israel and Hamas.
While flying to Israel on Air Force One Sunday, a correspondent asked Trump if ending the Gaza war might secure him a spot in heaven. Trump responded with a smile, saying, “I’m being a little cute. I don’t think there’s anything going to get me in heaven. I think I’m not maybe heaven-bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make heaven, but I’ve made life a lot better for a lot of people.”
He then highlighted his record, asserting the Israel-Hamas conflict would mark “the eighth war that I’ve solved.”
On Monday, Hamas released the remaining 20 Israeli hostages in return for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli military subsequently paused its operations and pulled back from parts of Gaza.
That same day in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, Trump joined Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye in signing a declaration backing the ceasefire and pledging to pursue “comprehensive and durable peace arrangements.”
Trump’s 20-point peace initiative aims to transform Gaza into a “deradicalized terror-free zone.” While Hamas accepted the prisoner exchange, it refused to disarm or relinquish control of the enclave. Israel has yet to agree to a full withdrawal from Gaza.
Raised Presbyterian, Trump has long enjoyed strong support from Evangelical Christian voters throughout his political career.
