“Blood Moon” Eclipse Mesmerizes Arab Countries

(MENAFN) A rare “blood moon” lunar eclipse was observed on Sunday across several Arab nations, attracting large gatherings and prompting special prayers.

A Saudi Arabian state broadcaster highlighted that the kingdom experienced its longest lunar eclipse since 2018.

Worshippers performed the Khusuf prayer, traditionally observed during eclipses, at both Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

In Egypt, the Helwan Observatory streamed the phenomenon live, while mosques throughout Cairo conducted special prayers.

The event also captured significant public interest in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Oman.

In Amman, Jordan’s capital, thousands of residents assembled outdoors to witness the celestial display.

The term “blood moon” refers to a total lunar eclipse.

This occurs when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the moon, blocking direct sunlight and casting the moon into the planet’s shadow.

During the eclipse, Earth’s atmosphere filters out shorter blue wavelengths of sunlight, allowing the longer, redder wavelengths to pass through and illuminate the lunar surface, creating the moon’s characteristic reddish glow.
