Azerbaijani epee fencing team member Vahab Fatullayev has
climbed to podium at tournament in Estonia,
Azernews reports.
Vahab Fatullayev took bronze medal at the Baltic Cup tournament
in Tartu.
The athlete began his fight in the individual competition among
epee fencers under 20 years old in the 1/16 finals, where he
defeated Latvian athlete Aleksejs Malinovskis with a score of
15:12.
In the 1/8 finals, Vahab met another Latvian opponent, Nikita
Anisko, and defeated him with a score of 15:6. In the
quarterfinals, the Azerbaijani epee fencer defeated Estonian Nikita
Doronin with a score of 15:14 in a tense fight, securing a bronze
medal.
However, in the semi-final, Vahab lost to another Estonian
athlete, Marek Puhma, with a score of 13:14, thus stopping one step
away from the final.
Azerbaijan Fencing Federation was established on April 28, 1992.
In May 1992, AQF was elected a member of the International Fencing
Federation.
On September 20, 2017, an extraordinary report-election
conference of the Azerbaijan Fencing Federation was held. At the
conference held in the administrative building of the National
Olympic Committee, Mikayil Jabbarov was elected the president of
the organization.
On November 20, 2021, at the general meeting held in the
administrative building of the Ministry of Youth and Sports,
Balakishi Gasimov was elected the president of the Azerbaijan
Fencing Federation.
The Vice-Presidents of the federation are Fikret Zeynalov and
Farhad Kasimov, and the general secretary is Vasif Mammadov. Head
coach of the national fencing team Chingiz Mustafayev.
