(MENAFN) Last weekend, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he is trying to finish the war with Russia as fast as he could, pursuing Ukraine could reclaim the lands that were taken from later by diplomacy if Kyiv’s NATO membership is guaranteed.
This reflects a change from his previous opinion, where he stated that the end of the conflict was depending on Russia returning captured Ukrainian land.
In an interview with Sky News head of journalists Stuart Ramsay, released on November 29, Zelenskyy declared that the “hot phase” of the conflict could end if NATO provided security assurances for the part of Ukraine that is right now under Kyiv’s control.
He added that the return of land taken by Russia at this time could be diplomatically discussed thereafter. Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirmed his point in an interview that was shared by the Japanese news agency Kyodo News on Monday. He also said in the meeting with Sky News, “If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control,”
