(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Lebanese army confirmed it will continue to take necessary measures to deploy its units in the south, in implementation of the Lebanese governments mandate, and in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), within the framework of implementing resolution 1701, with the ceasefire coming into effect.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the army called on the Lebanese people to wait to return to the villages and towns located in the areas that witnessed the incursion of the Israeli Occupation forces, as they await their withdrawal in accordance with the ceasefire agreement.
The statement stressed the need to adhere to the instructions of the military units deployed in the area to ensure people's safety.
The statement also urged residents returning to other areas to be careful of Israeli enemy remnants, including unexploded ordnance and suspicious objects.
The ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States to end the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, came into effect at 4:00 a.m. local time Wednesday.
The agreement stipulates an initial two-month ceasefire, while the US and France pledged in a joint statement to lead international efforts to build the capabilities of the Lebanese army and support the Lebanese economy.
Lebanon has been subjected to Israeli aggression for more than a year, the intensity of which has increased since the end of September, leading to the killing and wounding of thousands of civilians, and the displacement of more than a million people.
