SHUSHA, Azerbaijan, October 12. Within the
framework of events dedicated to the year“Shusha: Cultural Capital
of the Islamic World 2024," the symposium“Islamic Architectural
Heritage of Shusha City,” organized by the Department of the State
Historical-Architectural Reserve of Shusha City with the support of
ICESCO (Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural
Organization), has started working in Shusha since October 11,
2024, Trend 's

The symposium, running until October 13, will see a gathering of
over 80 architects hailing from Türkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Tunisia,
Kenya, Jordan, Italy, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and
Azerbaijan.
According to the information, on the inaugural day of the
symposium, Tural Novruzov, Executive Director of the Shusha State
Historical-Architectural Reserve Department, along with the
reserve's architects, engaged foreign architects in an immersive
exploration of Shusha city's historical and architectural
landmarks, including revitalized mosques and fortified walls. The
attendees were equipped with thorough insights regarding the
transformative infrastructure initiatives currently underway aimed
at revitalizing Shusha city, a hub of rich historical and cultural
heritage. Additionally, a curated experience was orchestrated to
facilitate exploration and engagement with the ongoing enhancement,
development, and restoration efforts throughout the city.
The symposium's opening ceremony featured impactful addresses
from key stakeholders, including Aydin Karimov, Special
Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in
Shusha district, Ilgar Isbatov, Deputy Chairman of the State
Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, Pietro Laureano,
representing UNESCO, and Bilal Chelebi, the official representative
of ICESCO. They emphasized the event's potential to significantly
enhance the architectural landscape, highlighting the unique
characteristics of Shusha city's architecture and its historical
significance within the broader context of Islamic architectural
heritage.

The upcoming days of the symposium will roll on with panel
