Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan share initiatives on the need to lay transcontinental highways through the territory of Central Asia, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said at extended talks with President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports via Turkmenistan's official media.

"Transport and logistics are a strategic area of partnership with Kazakhstan, due to the extensive opportunities both countries have in forming transport and transit corridors along the East-West and North-South lines. Here, our country fully shares the initiatives on the need to build transcontinental highways through the territory of Central Asia,” the head of state noted.

Furthermore, the head of Turkmenistan highly appreciated the achieved level of cooperation in various sectors and the accumulated experience at the governmental and departmental levels. According to him, the partnership in this area is developing steadily, demonstrating a tendency for qualitative growth.

In conclusion, the signing of several important documents facilitated the sides' determination to deepen strategic cooperation.

To note, Turkmenistan is actively involved in the development of the North-South and West-East transport corridors, which increases the country's role in regional logistics.

Turkmenistan, together with Russia, Kazakhstan, and Iran, signed a roadmap to promote the eastern branch of the North-South corridor in July 2024. The initiative aims to increase the capacity of the corridor to 15 million tons per year by 2027 and 20 million tons by 2030. The corridor is designed to provide efficient multimodal transport routes linking the Indian Ocean with the Caspian and Baltic Seas, significantly reducing transit costs and time compared to traditional routes.
