UNESCO Headquarters Hosts Azerbaijan's Cultural Events Presentation Within COP29


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. A presentation of cultural events organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan as part of the COP29 took place at the UNESCO headquarters on October 8, 2024, Trend reports via the ministry.

The event, attended by over 300 participants from more than 100 countries with permanent delegations to UNESCO, commenced with opening remarks from UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture Ernesto Ottone and the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences in the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO and Secretary of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme Antonio Abreu.

"In his speech at the presentation ceremony, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Culture, Farid Jafarov, addressed the connections between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, highlighted the role of culture in climate action, and emphasized the importance of integrating this theme into the global agenda.

Jafarov also announced the upcoming II High-Level Ministerial Dialogue, set to take place on November 15 within the framework of COP29, jointly organized by the cultural ministries of the UAE and Brazil as co-chairs of the "Group of Friends of Culture-Based Climate Action" (GFCBCA).

The event featured a presentation moderated by Ottone, showcasing a video about the Culture for Climate (C4C) initiative put forth by the Ministry of Culture. During the presentation, participants received detailed insights into the significant role of behavioral culture in climate action efforts, along with an annual action plan that includes projects to be implemented in this area.

As co-chairs of the GFCBCA, the permanent representatives of the UAE and Brazil at UNESCO expressed their support for the C4C initiative, thanking Azerbaijan for its proactive efforts in integrating cultural themes into the agenda. Participants were then invited to visit Baku in November.
