Azerbaijan's Baku Sets Up Worship Spots At COP29 Whereabouts

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. Prayer and
meditation rooms will be established at the venue of the upcoming
COP29 conference in Baku, Trend reports.
The initiative is outlined in the draft law of the Republic of
Azerbaijan: "On approval of the 29th session of the Conference of
the Parties to the United Nations Framework convention on Climate
Change between the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the
Secretariat of the United Nations Organization on Climate Change,
the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement. The 19th session of
the meeting of the parties of the Kyoto Protocol, the 6th session
of the meeting of the parties of the Paris Agreement, and the
Agreement on Sessions of Subsidiary Bodies," which is scheduled for
discussion at the Azerbaijani Parliament on October 8.
In addition, at the conference site, there will be a
mother-and-child room stocked with all the essentials, ensuring
that everything is above board. Additionally, designated outdoor
smoking areas will be set up within the secured territory at the
COP29 conference, so attendees can take a breather without a
hitch.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to
the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held
in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision was made at the
plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
Within two weeks, Baku, having become the center of the world, will
host about 70,000-80,000 foreign guests.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement
signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous
human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP
(Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is
the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the
Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless
the parties have decided otherwise, COP is held annually. The first
COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is
located in Bonn.
