BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 3. bp and SOCAR are
working together on technology and reporting on methane emissions,
bp's Vice President for Caspian Region Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli said at
the conference“Progress on Methane: Advancing Global Methane
Reduction” within the Baku Climate Action Week, Trend reports.
According to him, bp has been actively using new sensors and
drones to monitor possible methane emissions at its offshore and
onshore facilities in Azerbaijan since 2024 and will continue
working in this direction.
Aslanbayli also pointed out that working hand in hand with SOCAR
on the green energy transition is bearing fruit.
Azerbaijan has initiated the signing of the Declaration on
Methane during the upcoming COP29, as well as launched an
initiative to reduce methane emissions in food production.
To recall, last week, the IEA and the COP29 Chairmanship held a
high-level event on methane on the margins of the UN General
Assembly in New York.
It was noted that the IEA is all ears for SOCAR's proactive
measures in keeping a close eye on methane emissions and putting
the brakes on emissions overall.
