Saipem Wins Major Offshore Contract For Qatar's North Field Gas Project

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. Saipem has been awarded a significant offshore Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract by QatarEnergy LNG as part of the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Program, Trend reports.

The project, valued at approximately $4 billion, will focus on sustaining natural gas production from the North Field reservoir, located off the north-east coast of Qatar.

The contract, which encompasses two phases-COMP3A and COMP3B-includes the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation of six offshore platforms. Additionally, Saipem will install approximately 100 kilometers of corrosion-resistant alloy rigid subsea pipelines, 100 kilometers of subsea composite cables, and 150 kilometers of fiber optic cables. Several other essential subsea facilities will also be part of the installation.

This major deal follows the EPC package for the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Complexes Project (COMP2), which was awarded to Saipem in October 2022. The ongoing COMP2 project underscores Saipem's strong position in Qatar's energy sector.

The North Field is one of the world's largest offshore natural gas reservoirs, and sustaining its output is a critical part of Qatar's long-term energy strategy. With this contract, Saipem further consolidates its track record in delivering large-scale offshore infrastructure projects for QatarEnergy, enhancing its role as a key partner in the region's gas production expansion efforts.

As the project progresses, it will be a cornerstone in ensuring Qatar maintains its status as a leading global LNG exporter.
