(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. Serbia and Azerbaijan will sign agreement on supply of additional gas volumes, Trend reports via the Serbian Ministry of mining and Energy.

Serbian Minister of Mining and energy Dubravka Djedovic announced the preparation of an official agreement regarding the purchase of gas from Azerbaijan.

During a visit to Novi Sad city on September 13, the minister attended the Srbijagas company headquarters.

"This November, we'll have 750 million cubic meters of gas in underground storage at Banatski Dvor [Serbian village] and 163 million cubic meters in gas storage facilities in Hungary.

We have also secured additional gas supplies from Azerbaijan (in 2024), which we will purchase according to our needs, and we'll formalize the official agreement soon," the minister said.

She mentioned that Serbia has a strategic interest in having gas storage facilities on its own territory.

"By the end of 2026, 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas will be stored in Banatski Dvor. The measures being taken will crucially contribute to energy security and stability for the next 25 years," the minister added.

To note, Serbia has been receiving gas from Azerbaijan since the beginning of this year, and over the past period, it has purchased more than 23 million cubic meters.

On November 15, 2023, a contract was signed between Srbijagas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) for the supply of Azerbaijani gas (up to 400 million cubic meters per year during 2024-2026, with the possibility of an increase starting in 2027).

The gas is transported through Bulgaria.
