BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 12. The
Kara-Suu-Road checkpoint on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and
Uzbekistan has resumed operations, Trend reports via the Kyrgyz Cabinet of
Ministers.
Deputy Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of
Water Resources, Agriculture, and industry Bakyt Torobaev attended
the checkpoint opening ceremony.
"Previously, a significant part of the citizens of Kyrgyzstan
and Uzbekistan crossing the border stood in queues at the
Dostuk-Road checkpoint. Its opening will address the issue of
border crossing queues. One of the key aspects of our bilateral
cooperation is enhancing the operation of international checkpoints
and creating comfortable conditions for citizens crossing the state
border," he said at the ceremony.
Torobaev highlighted that the reopening of the checkpoint will
strengthen economic, social, and cultural ties between the two
countries, as well as increase tourism flows.
The Kara-Suu-Road checkpoint is nestled in the heart of the city
of Kara-Suu, straddling the border between Kyrgyzstan's Osh region
and Uzbekistan's Andijan region. It was put on the back burner 14
years ago, but now it's back in the saddle, ticking all the boxes
it needs to meet.
